В диссертации раскрыто феномен австрийской малой прозы, специфику ее рецептивной и генологической парадигм в контексте немецкоязычного литературного процесса. Впервые в украинском литературоведении на контекстуальном фоне рассмотрены особенности поэтики австрийской малой прозы ХХ века в типологических сопоставлениях с немецкой малой прозой рассматриваемого периода, что обусловило привлечение и таких составляющих исследования, как рецептивная эстетика и генологическая парадигма. Анализ историко-литературного материала охватил широкий круг работ австрийских, немецких, швейцарских, украинских, польских, русских, словацких, чешских, болгарских, венгерских литературоведов. На основании детального рассмотрения исследовательского массива, содержащего разветвленный комплекс актуальных вопросов для словесной науки на новейшем этапе ее развития, разработана собственная концепция интерпретации художественных текстов краткой эпической формы австрийских писателей (К. Э. Францоз, А. Шницлер, Г. Гофманнсталь, Р. М. Рильке, Ф. Кафка, Р. Музиль, Й. Рот, И. Айхингер, И. Бахманн, Т. Бернхард, А. Зелински, П. Хандке, Э. Фитцбауер, М. Ган, Г. Кунер). В произведениях названных авторов отображен широкий спектр представлений австрийского общества о перипетиях ХХ века. Результаты исследования дали возможность систематизировать и обобщить основные составляющие поэтики австрийской малой прозы ХХ века.

Prolificacy of perception of Austrian literature has its specific features. The topicality of investigation is stipulated by the need of structural regulation of the conceptual-categorial apparatus concerning polysemantic estimation of Austrian literature of the 20th century and its specificity. As the object of insufficient massiveness the study of its short epic forms has got special weight. The basis of this kind of task is the essence of the interpretable possibility to fix up the state of both culturological and aesthetic discourses. Hence, there arises the necessity to study genological and receptive paradigms of Austrian writing in the context of German-speaking literary extended space. The key issue of the interaction of literary systems is revelation of a fictional-stylelike basis that determines the identity of the national tradition to a great extent. The principal aim of the work is to study tendencies and regulations of the development of Austrian short prose of the 20th century; to comprehend theoretically and to investigate systematically its genre peculiarities in the context of German-speaking literary process; to regulate structurally the conceptual-categorial complex connecting with terms, approaches, correlation of individual stylelike factors with general ones, as well as with characteristics of a variety of methodologies and polyvariation of intertextual links at the synchronic and diachronic levels.

The following most important questions were found helpful in developing the theme under investigation: a) interpretation of the peculiarities of spreading out and perceiving national literatures and the nature of their interaction; b) singling out specific features of creative understanding and comprehending fictional experience in the dynamics of the development of a separate literary system, first of all in Austria and Germany (literary reception) ; c) interpretation of literary facts at the level of perceiving texts of short prose by the author-creator and by the addressee-recipient (receptive aesthetics) ; d) revealing genre-stylelike peculiarity of the Austrian short prose of the 20th century (genological discourse). For the first time in Ukrainian literary criticism the peculiarities of poetics of the 20th century Austrian short prose have been studied against the contextual background with regard to typological cuts and comparisons with German short prose of the period under analysis, hence the following components such as receptive aesthetics and genological paradigm.

The historical and literary material of a large number of works by Austrian, German, Swiss, Ukrainian, Polish, Russian, Slovak, Czech, Bulgarian, Hungarian literary scholars has been analyzed. On the basis of detailed study of the research massiveness containing many-branched complex of topical questions for the verbal science at the latest stage of its development has been created a new concept of interpretation of fictional samples of a short epic form of Austrian writers (K. E. Franzos, A. Schnitzler, H. Hofmannsthal, R. M. Rilke, F. Kafka, R. Musil, J. Roth, I. Aichinger, I. Bachmann, T. Bernhard, A. Zielinski, P. Handke, E. Fitzbauer, M. Hahn, H. Kuhner). A wide spectrum of the Austrian society's views on the events in the 20th century has been reflected in their works. The results of the research made it possible to present the author’s variant of systematization and generalization of fundamental components of poetics of the 20th century Austrian short prose.
